Gregg has many interests and hobbies, especially ones that involve working
with his hands. Right now, the focus is on carving pieces of wood
sustainably harvested from our farm here in Bonnechere Valley. The wood
comes to life once again in Gregg’s hands as spoons, bowls, boxes, little
pots, decorative objects, and birchbark containers among many other items.
He has made many knives to achieve the carving techniques that he uses and
makes special sheaths for the knives by braiding birchbark to keep fingers
and knife blades safe. He is leading a woodcarving group at the Echo Centre
in Eganville twice a month, sharing knowledge with interested participants.
Photography also plays a large part in Gregg’s life, capturing scenes from
across Canada and deep in the wilderness during canoe trips. He leads a
photo club at the Bonnechere Union Public Library once a month where the
focus is on knowledge sharing and inspiration from others.
